Wild Red Columbine

Another Pacific Northwest native, the Wild Red Columbine is one of the most unusually shaped wildflowers in our region, with spurred talons resembling eagle claws. But don't let its odd shape and fragile appearance fool  you, these flowers are very hearty. Their seeds can withstand extreme heat and are one of the first blossoms seen following a wildfire. Blooms appear in spring and last through early fall, providing an important source of nectar for bumblebees, hummingbirds, and butterflies.
