Blacktail Doe

Blacktail Doe

Sweet faced but fully alert, we happened on this Blacktail doe browsing along the Hurricane Hill Trail in the Olympics. Her red summer coat was already transitioning to the brownish-gray she’ll wear all winter. Possessing an excellent sense of smell, her finely tuned ears keep her alert to danger, ready to run at a moment’s notice. Blacktail deer are rarely seen, preferring to travel silently in the hours of dusk and dawn, and the Olympic National Park is likely the only place you’ll be able to get this close.
