Alpine Aster

Alpine Aster

This elegant perennial graces the mountainside with lavender blooms throughout spring and summer. Named by ancient Greeks (aster meaning star), the Alpine Aster is the only wild aster native to the United States. Long considered the 'enchanted flower', asters are a symbol of patience and love worldwide. Not surprising, as they certainly cast their spell on us when we stumbled on them growing in an alpine meadow near Cascade Pass.
